Sandra is six months pregnant.
When she found out that she was affected by the coronavirus, she first panicked: what would happen to the baby?
Now she shares her story to calm other pregnant women.
Two weeks ago on Sunday, Eskilstunabon Sandra Bortolini, who is pregnant at week 26, had a bit of a sore throat and cough.
– I definitely didn’t think it was the corona virus. It was out and it was windy. Also, there were such mild symptoms.
Monday I had a sore throat, even the cough was gone. But in the afternoon she gradually got worse. The cough came back, the breathing worsened and she had a fever.
– The night before Tuesday I had a high fever and shortness of breath, so I called 1177.
Sandra was invited to go directly to the Mälar Hospital. There they took several samples and she had to go home anticipating the results. They told him to contact the healthcare provider again if the fever increased. What it became.
Once again he had to go to the hospital. A doctor in protective clothing announced that they had received the test responses and that she had tested positive for covid-19. Therefore, Sandra would be admitted to the infection department, something Eskilstuna-Kuriren has written about.
– Then I broke and cried. He was very sad and very scared. Also, I felt really bad.
– I didn’t know what was going to happen to me and the boy. The only thing I thought about was what I read in the magazine, and it can give negative thoughts.

Pregnant Sandra fell ill on covid-19 and was admitted to the hospital.
Sandra was concerned about her son, if she had not been pregnant if she had not sought care, she says. The worst was uncertainty, not knowing if the child would be affected.
– No checks were made on the baby, no heart sounds or anything was heard. What I heard was that while the baby kicks and feels fetal movements, I can be calm. In addition, the doctor said that the baby could not become infected in the stomach.
Sandra decided to focus on not stressing, for the girl’s sake.
– It was important not only to think about the infection, but to focus on how I, as a pregnant mother, chose to face this situation.
Also, Sandra was lucky. The course of the disease became a common flu. After four days, he had to leave the hospital and quarantine instead. Today, according to doctors, it is considered healthy, since it does not present symptoms.
– However, it seems that I was hit by a train, but every day I feel better and better.

Today, Sandra has no symptoms.
Sandra wants to share to calm other pregnant women, because there is a lack of information.
– Try to distance yourself and not read too much in the newspapers and watch too much on television. It’s good to be read, but you shouldn’t be sicker than you are. The virus is not a death sentence for everyone.
– Stay calm, as pregnant you feel if something is wrong. And call 1177 if you need help. Trust that healthcare knows what they are doing. Everything else is unnecessary stress for you and your baby.
Public Health Agency for pregnant women and Covid-19
“There are few studies in pregnant women with covid-19. Comparisons with other diseases caused by the SARS coronavirus and the MERS coronavirus show that covid-19 causes fewer complications in pregnant women.
As with all pneumonia, the risk of serious illness may be slightly higher, especially in late pregnancy. There are few reports of children infected during pregnancy or childbirth.
Therefore, there is currently limited information on covid-19 and pregnancy. We recommend that pregnant women take the same precautions as with all infectious diseases. ”
