It is fully equipped in the IT and telecommunications industry to meet the new challenges that come with the steps of the pandemic. Recently, a strict visitation ban was introduced in all nursing homes in the country, which unfortunately means that it is difficult to greet family members.
We have previously written about the Dataprata site, which was developed as a way to keep in touch during the visitor ban time. But it is not the only project that is trying to meet that challenge.
The new company Loopeli, with the help of Telenor, will equip the nursing homes with a specially designed tablet adapted for the elderly and the plan is to get as many as possible before Easter.
The product is based on an idea that Thomas Sidén had when he wanted to have closer contact with his 95-year-old father, who was sitting in a retirement home.
Unfortunately, a common phenomenon
– We had a hard time communicating with my dad when he was alive. It was ringing in his ears when we spoke on the phone and without a hearing aid he heard nothing. Unfortunately, it is a common phenomenon that it is very difficult to talk on the phone with a hearing aid, he says about the challenges he faced when he wanted to facilitate his father.
– We also tested with audiobooks. I bought every player there was, but nothing works for an older person who has difficulty with motor skills.
The product you have now developed is a very easy to use tablet that sits on a heavy and stable stand. The very simple interface contains video calls, postcards, radio and audiobooks. Video calls have pre-established contacts that can be managed from the relatives of the mobile through an application.
How many plates do you have
– They are around 100. It is a collaboration with Telenor, and we aspire to the market to obtain more toads. At this time, we loan them so that nobody pays anything. And so Telenor represents the free SIM card for a few months, or as long as the visitor ban continues.

Initially, around 20 nursing homes will receive the 100 tablets, and then it will also be possible to download Loopeli for free on their own tablet.
– Hopefully it is so good that they want to keep it, says Thomas Sidén, who at least experienced the effect during tests at the Stora Sköndal nursing home church.
– We know that it works well, and we have seen that those who have had it despair when we have had to eliminate it. We started using it with loved ones and removed them to change the settings. Today, however, changes can be made remotely.
Loopeli has currently paid for the hardware and development has been done in conjunction with Levels. The hope is that the tests will advance the business. At the moment, they are only available for purchase on the Loopeli site, but the plan is to continue the partnership with Telenor.
Much appreciated
– These are mainly individuals, that is, family members, who are customers. Then it will probably go through Telenor. They think it’s a lot of fun that we can help older people through these tough times, so it’s much appreciated, says Thomas Sidén.
Ulrika Steg, Telenor’s director of corporate business, says it feels good to help.
– For the elderly who are isolated, it is perhaps the most important bridge to the outside world. At a time when digital contact between loved ones is needed the most, I am proud that Telenor can contribute by providing older people across the country with tablets tailored for older people, she says and hopes to help as many people as possible before. – When a group of people is located outside the whole community, it is obvious that we help. Our goal with this is to make everyday life easier for as many families as possible and we hope it will be easier to celebrate a digital Easter together. Loopeli has developed a really good solution for this and now we handle the iron to bring the product to as many people as possible when it is most needed.
