Women face obstacles: men have shortcuts

Women in leadership positions are few in youth sports.
A new study from Umeå University shows why it has become like this on the ground floor.
– These dominant norms must be made visible, challenged and changed. That gives men privileges in sports and training, says university professor Inger Eliasson.

One of the many male coaches in the two highest floor series, SSL. Of 28 teams in the men’s and women’s SSL, only one team, Endre in SSL (d), has a women’s coach. The valley, also in the female SSL, has shared leadership with a male and female head coach. In the image, Malmö FBC coach Mikael Jeppsson.Photo: CHRISTOFFER BORG MATTISSON

The sports movement in Sweden is strongly dominated by men. According to figures from the Swedish Sports Federation, only 27 percent of all sports activities among children and youth are led by women.
