At the same time, grim new statistics on the number of people in the UK lost their lives to the virus. According to the country’s health minister Matt Hancock, another 980 people have died in the past 24 hours. It is the highest daily number so far since the start of the virus outbreak. A total of almost 9,000 have died in the UK as a result of the corona virus according to the country’s official figures.
