90 volunteer divers from all over Sweden searched for the remains of the murdered 17-year-old Wilma at Bäveån in Udevalla on Saturday.

Nothing was found during the volunteer effort.

– We have searched as thoroughly as possible with 90 divers, robots and scanning. The chance of us missing something is small, but it always exists, says initiator Marcus Göthberg.

Wilma disappeared in November last year and her ex-boyfriend was convicted of murder. The body of the murdered girl has not been found. Therefore, it has not been possible to determine the cause of death, which contributed to the Court of Appeal changing the sentence of the district court and reducing the sentence from life to prison of 18 years.

Police have previously searched the waters between Uddevallabron and Bäveån on several rounds without finding anything.

The purpose of today’s volunteer effort was for the family to be completely sure that they had done what they could on the search site, according to Göthberg.

– We did it to show the family that there is incredible support. That we do not give up. Many people are dissatisfied with the verdict that was changed, he says.

No remains were found during the operation. The divers took about 25 suspicious finds for investigation.

– In some places we only had 30 centimeters of visibility. But we are sure that we have done everything possible. The possibility of the body being there is even less now.

The volunteers who came forward came from various places in Sweden, from Gävle to Malmö, says Göthberg.

– Most of the people who stood on the pier have children. Everyone can understand that you want to have your relative set.
