It is the water in Bäveån and its drain that will be sought again.
In less than a week, 85 divers had obeyed the search warrant issued by Marcus Göthberg and Cecilia Bengtsson after the Court of Appeal announced its verdict against Wilma Andersson’s killer.
– I think it’s the biggest volunteer effort by divers in Sweden, I haven’t heard of anything bigger, says Marcus Göthberg.
Dissatisfaction with the judgment of the Court of Appeal
The district court sentenced Wilma’s ex-boyfriend to life in prison for the murder, but the appeals court reduced the sentence to 18 years. The Court of Appeals justified the reduction by stating that the exact cause of death and the course of events could not be proven for the disappearance of the body.
After this became known, Marcus Göthberg called Wilma’s mother, whom he got to know during the big search operation last fall.
– It’s a conversation I’ll never forget. She asked me please do something, she says.
Since he’s a diver himself and grew up in Uddevalla and knows the waters around the city, it felt like a given choice. In addition to volunteer divers, companies have contacted us to sponsor in various ways, such as hotel rooms for participants and food for volunteers who help. To meet the strict restrictions of the crown, additional tents will be set up for people to spread out among themselves.
Police: she is not
The police have repeatedly searched the waters between Uddevallabron and Bäveån. They have also ridden with sonar, compared to older images and have made dives where there have been deviations.
Sten-Rune Timmersjö of the Serious Crime Police Unit believes the area is well searched.
– I’m pretty sure Wilma isn’t there.
– At the same time, I understand that the family does everything possible to achieve an ending, I probably would have done the same.
But could something have been missed?
– That possibility is always there, but I don’t think so.
