On social media, video clips are now spreading with the burning of 5G masts and personnel attacked like a forest fire.

The purpose of the sabotage?

Stop the spread of the crown.

According to a rapidly growing conspiracy theory, 5G masts, part of the expansion of the world’s fastest mobile network, are behind the new pandemic. This is because the high level of radiation emitted by the masts reduces the immune system and therefore increases susceptibility to diseases such as the crown, according to adherents.

Posts showing a link between covid-19 and 5G have been shared by actor Woody Harrelson, with two million followers on Instagram. And he is not alone.

According to a New York Times analysis, there are nearly 500 Facebook groups with more than half a million followers, 84 Instagram accounts, and numerous posts and videos on how 5G in various ways causes or exacerbates the spread of the infection.

Conspirators believe that the corona virus spreads through 5G and has therefore attacked 5G masts. The image is of the mast in Birmingham, UK.

More than 100 cases of sabotage.

In social media groups, members mutually urge each other to burn masts. Those who have managed to burn more end up at the top of the list in an internal points table.

And now the theory has had consequences in reality.

More than 100 incidents of sabotage related to the deployment of the 5G network have recently been reported in the UK, according to the New York Times.

There are around 30 cases of vandalism against the masts and around 80 cases of harassment, directed at the staff of mobile operators while they were in the process of digging cables.

“This doesn’t make sense of the worst kind,” Julian Knight, a deputy who works against the dissemination of incorrect information about the coronavirus, tells the New York Times.

Several 5G masts around the Netherlands have also been sabotaged over the past week according to TT.

The groups are closed

According to the reminders, a “test” of the theory is that Africa, where the expansion of 5G networks has not yet started, has also not been affected by the crown. An explanation that is difficult to buy since Africa now has thousands of confirmed coronary cases, says the World Health Organization, WHO.

The theory is believed to have originated from a rumor that Wuhan, where the virus outbreak occurred, was the first city in China to start expanding to 5G networks. Something that has not been proven: In fact, several Chinese cities were pilot areas for the new network.

According to studies, there is no evidence that 5G radiation that is kept within the appropriate limit values causes any disease.

“Common in crisis”

The authority for the protection and preparation of the community indicates that it is important to be alert and to be a critical source.

“It’s common for conspiracy theories to exist in crisis,” says Hanna Wiklander of the MSB press service.

Facebook, which also owns Instagram and WhatsApp, has now begun closing groups and removing posts with false 5G-crown connection charges.
