On Friday, the human rights organization Amnesty submitted a petition to the Iranian embassy, signed by about 45,000 people, demanding that the death penalty be lifted against the Swedish-Korean researcher Ahmadreza Djalali and that he be released immediately.
The names have been compiled for almost two days. Additional signatures will be delivered in installments, says Amnesty Sweden in a press release.
“We want to show the rulers of Iran that there is great commitment and great concern for Ahmadreza Djalali. We have also requested a meeting with the Ambassador to request the release of Ahmadreza Djalali, even if only for humanitarian reasons. He must to return home with his family, his wife and children here in Sweden, ”General Secretary Anna Lindenfors says in the press release.
Ahmadreza Djalali was arrested in Iran during a trip to a conference in 2016 and sentenced to death the following year on charges of espionage. The other day, there were indications that the death penalty is in danger of being carried out shortly.
