On Thursday there was a massive escape from the Croix-des-Bouquets prison on the outskirts of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, reports the AP news agency.
25 people lost their lives when 400 prisoners managed to escape from the institution, reports AFP.
The images show how heavily armed police managed to capture some of the fugitives whose hands were tied with ropes.

According to the AP, one theory is that the mass exodus was to free Arnel Joseph. He was then shot and killed after a police patrol discovered him fleeing on a motorcycle. The police spokesman told the AP that Arnel Joseph was the first to open fire.
In 2014, another high-profile escape occurred, when more than 300 of the 899 inmates held at the prison escaped. After that, the authorities came out and promised that they would make the prison safer, among other things by putting electronic shackles on the feet of the most dangerous prisoners and surveillance cameras. It is unclear how many of the measures were actually implemented, writes AP.
At the time of the escape, 1,542 people were incarcerated. There are almost twice the capacity of the prison.
