A total of 556,289 people in Sweden have been confirmed to be infected with covid-19.

– We are at much lower levels than when it was at its worst. We see all age groups declining, says Anders Tegnell, a state epidemiologist at the Swedish Public Health Agency.

Tegnell says, however, that there is still a widespread spread of the virus.

– It is a red flag, because if it is everywhere, only small changes of behavior are needed to get it back up.

95 cases of British mutation

The Swedish Public Health Agency has been actively searching for the mutated British variant of the virus in Sweden. 95 cases have been identified, 64 with travel connection. We have also seen 3 cases of the South African variant.

– It also shows signs of spreading better, says Anders Tegnell.

It says they increase the ability to analyze viruses and detect mutated variants.

People traveling from what the Swedish Public Health Agency describes as risk countries – Great Britain, South Africa, Brazil and Norway – need to get tested more regularly and take special measures when they return to Sweden.

192,700 vaccinated

Tegnell also comments on vaccination and says that the vaccine that is in place now works very well and has a high level of protection.

– All the signals we receive are that the vaccination works well, he says.

This is despite the reduction in deliveries.

– Unfortunately we have received a certain reduction, but despite this we have now managed to vaccinate many in Sweden.

A total of 192,700 registered people have been vaccinated once or twice. There are more vaccinated but not all cases are registered.

New deaths in the authority’s statistics have occurred in most cases several days earlier, and deaths that occurred in the near future are not included due to reporting delays. This means that the daily update shows the reported death rates, not the death rate for that particular day.
