Prince: I’m under house arrest
One of the detainees is Prince Hamza bin Hussein, half brother of King Abullah II. The court denies that this is the case, but according to the prince himself, he is under house arrest. In 2004, Abdullah changed the order of succession so that Prince Hamza is no longer heir to the throne.
“I received a visit from the commander of the Jordanian army this morning. He said that I was not allowed to go out or communicate with people,” Prince Hamza said in a BBC video.
In recent months there have been demonstrations in the monarchy against corruption and the management of the corona pandemic in the country. Police doused the protests with tear gas.
