Mattias, 17, has been missing without a trace since Saturday night.

Now the police have launched a preliminary investigation into the kidnapping.

– It has been done on occasion, regarding an assignment that has been received, says Roger Olsson, area manager of the local police in Ljungby.

17-year-old Mattias disappeared from a party in Ljungby at 12.30am on Saturday night. He must not have been wearing a jacket or shoes when he disappeared.

Previously, the police stated that they did not suspect any crime in connection with the disappearance. But on Wednesday afternoon, the police drew up a kidnapping report.

– There is no suspect, but there is a reason. This is a task that has come down to us, says Roger Olsson, area manager for the local police in Ljungby.

– But I want to be clear in pointing out that it costs us very little to prepare a report and initiate a preliminary investigation. That’s so we can investigate this assignment, he continues.

What is the task?

– I can not say that. And it may turn out that it doesn’t matter.

How does this change the work of the police?

– Search work continues as before. But we will also take the necessary steps to verify this information. It’s a regular investigative job.

Last track: Played at home

So far, the police have received relatively few leads about the disappearance.

– There are some tips. It has been observed during the night it disappeared. But then we don’t know where he has gone.

The last time anyone should have seen Mattias was at 02:00 on Saturday night. Then he must have called several houses in a residential area.

– Some of the owners should have opened up and talked to him, possibly he should have asked for the road, says Roger Olsson.

Searching in the water

This weekend an important helicopter rescue operation was carried out in which the Armed Forces and hundreds of volunteers participated.

The special rescue operation ended Monday morning, but local police and NGOs have continued to conduct extensive searches in Ljungby and the surrounding land.

– We searched during the day. We will also search with a dog in Lagan through Ljungby, it will happen tomorrow or at the end of the week, says Roger Olsson.
