A 16-year-old boy in Hong Kong has been convicted of rioting since he pleaded guilty to throwing a gasoline bomb at police during the 2019 protests.

Therefore, he is the youngest convicted of the crime during the pro-democracy protests in the city. The boy was 14 years old when he participated in the protests and was sentenced to prison for minors of up to six months.

The verdict came at the same time that 47 democracy activists in another court heard preparatory court hearings and bail hearings, for the third day in a row. During the first two days, five of them are said to have fallen ill and needed medical help.

The 47 were indicted on Sunday as part of China’s criticized new security law introduced in Hong Kong last year. Among the accused are parliamentarians, lawyers, social workers and youth activists.

During the first day in court, thousands of people demonstrated in front of the building, but the crowds are said to be getting thinner.
