Austrian police raided a large number of addresses on Wednesday in search of co-suspects in Monday’s terror attack, reports AFP.

“There have been 18 house searches in Vienna and in the province of Lower Austria and 14 people have been arrested,” Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said.

It was initially thought that there were at least two perpetrators, but now Nehammer announces that witness videos and surveillance cameras indicate that the killer acted alone. But you are not sure.

Four people died in the act in addition to the alleged perpetrator, who was shot and killed by the police. Twenty-four people were injured, including a policeman guarding the synagogue where the act began. Thirteen people are still being treated in the hospital, for five the condition is critical.

Known IS sympathizer

The perpetrator who was shot and killed was equipped with an automatic weapon and a fake bomb belt. It turned out to be a 20-year-old Austrian who also had citizenship from North Macedonia. The man is said to have previously expressed sympathy for the Islamic State and ended up on the police radar in connection with his attempt to travel to Syria to join the terrorist sect.

According to Nehammer, the 20-year-old, after serving his sentence, gave the impression that he was trying to adapt, but secretly harbored supportive opinions. Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz describes the act as “an obvious Islamist attack.”
