On January 6, Congress will meet to count the electoral votes and formally announce the winner of the presidential election. It is in this process that the eleven senators plan to vote against approving the voters of the states where President Donald Trump, without legal evidence, alleges that extensive electoral fraud has been committed.
The demand of the eleven Republican senators is a 10-day “emergency review” of the electoral results in the states that in their statement they call “questioned.” It is not clear what these states are.

In court, however, the successes have been few. Many of the cases have been closed and none of them have caused a change in the outcome itself. None of the cases have been examined by the Supreme Court of the United States. When Texta Attorney General Ken Paxtons tried to disqualify the vote count in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, HD rejected the case and wrote in its decision that “the complaint is rejected for lack of legal capacity.”
The eleven Republican senators criticize the Supreme Court for not hearing any of the cases.
“In the best of cases, the courts would have examined the evidence and rectified these allegations of serious electoral fraud. Twice the Supreme Court had the opportunity to do so; twice the court denied it,” they write in the statement.
That the eleven senators Voting against specific voters is unlikely to change anything in practice, but his move lends legitimacy to Donald Trump’s long struggle to deprive the election of its credibility.
Several US politicians have criticized the senators’ message. Republican Joe Walsh, who previously sat in Congress and ran against Donald Trump in the 2020 primaries, criticizes the entire Republican Party on Twitter after the statement.
