According to a preliminary assessment, the Västra Götaland region will receive 101,500 doses of vaccine in January. An additional 506,400 doses will be available in February.
Those who were offered a vaccine against COVID-19 for the first time are people who live in nursing homes or with home care, the staff who work with these people and the adults who live with those who receive home care. This involves more than 300,000 people in the region.
– Mainly we will vaccinate the most fragile in situ at homes and health centers. At Västra Götaland, we have more than 300 specialty accommodations, says Kristine Rygge, vaccination coordinator for the region.
Then the rest of the care staff Vaccines are offered, as well as to people over 70 years of age and in other risk groups. Vaccination is free.
– It will be a combination of invocations and that you will hear from yourself. We will also come out clearly in the media and talk about which group should be vaccinated, says Kristine Rygge.
She estimates that mass vaccination for the general public, for those who do not belong to any risk group, will begin after the summer at the latest.
– It depends on how many doses of vaccine we receive, of course. If we start before the summer, it’s great, but it’s hard to promise.
Then large vaccine centers will be equipped, such as exhausted commercial premises and conference centers.
– One suggestion is drive thru solutions where you just have to stretch your arm. There is a great willingness to help and many have heard of it, both in hotels and in conference facilities and sports stadiums.
What vaccines like the region sheep is not clear. Astra Zeneca, Pfizer and Moderna have submitted an application for approval of their vaccines.
Astra Zeneca and the EU have signed an agreement on 300 million doses, where two percent will be allocated to Sweden. Sweden has also signed an agreement through the EU on access to Pfizer’s vaccine, which will be enough for 2.3 million Swedes.
Modern vaccines should be able to be stored in the refrigerator for 30 days, Pfizer for only five days, and then require minus 70 degrees to last longer. The region has prepared itself by buying syringes, needles and consumables. The vaccine should be given in two doses every few weeks.
– We will make sure that those who received dose one also receive dose two. There are also requirements for refrigerated and frozen storage and that we secure transportation. We have this in our planning, says Kristine Rygge.
What do you say to those who hesitate to get vaccinated?
– I think you should read up on vaccinations and speak to your doctor when in doubt. As soon as the vaccines are approved, there will be more to read about them.
