The Swedish Public Health Agency distributes the doses of the vaccine to the different regions of Sweden.
In a press release, Kristine Rygge, Vaccine Coordinator at Västra Götaland, says:
– We are ready to receive the vaccine doses and we are well placed in our planning to be able to offer vaccines to the priority groups that the Public Health Agency has decided.
In total, there are 101,500 doses.
In February, the VG region is expected to receive another half a million doses of vaccines from various manufacturers, most of them from AstraZeneca.
– Vaccines should be given in two doses to each patient at intervals of several weeks and we will ensure that those who received dose one also receive dose two, says Kristine Rygge.
They should take priority
The priority list of who should get vaccinated first follows the recommendation of the Swedish Public Health Agency and looks like this:
People who live in special housing for the elderly or who have home care
Nursing and assistance personnel who work close to the people covered by the first point
Close family contacts of people receiving home care.
Not yet approved
Kristine Rygge notes, however, that the vaccines have not yet been approved and that this is preliminary information.
– But as soon as vaccines are approved and can be delivered to us, we will be ready to begin vaccination, it says in the press release.
