Swamp Thing Premiere Date Announced on CW

The CW has announced its fall premiere schedule, including DC Universe’s broadcast debut Swamp Thing series. The show is coming to The CW on October 6 with a 90-minute premiere. Based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what looks like a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana, but soon discovers that the swamp contains mystical and horrific secrets. When unexplained and cooling horrors emerge from the swamp, no one is safe. The series stars Crystal Reed, Virginia Madsen, Andy Bean, Henderson Wade, Derek Mears, Maria Sten, and Jeryl Prescott.

DC Universe canceled the series shortly after its premiere. That was after the show’s production was cut short by three episodes, the result of production going over budget as a result of expected tax credits falling through.

The CW’s decision to air Swamp Thing came amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has made it challenging to film new scripted content for the fall season. Fans of the series hold out that hope Swamp ThingThe jump to the CW could mean a second season. CW President Mark Pedowitz warned fans not to come for themselves.

“Right now, it’s just one season,” Pedowitz said in May. “I do not know if it would come back. Of course that would be a discussion for Warner Bros. and The CW. But for now, Swamp Thing is just the episodes we have. “

Series co-maker Gary Dauberman shared his plans for the show’s second season during an interview late last year. “Season One is a lot like a movie in that it has a beginning, middle and end, and is one story that is told over the course of 10 episodes and what I really liked about the comics is that there like wolf is in a hospital and things like that, so we would have episodes like an anthology with standalone stories, “Dauberman said. “The Swamp is quite the kitchen wash of supernatural terror and, as you know, you can go into different subgenres of horror with this and I was really looking forward to exploring that in Season Two and delving into some of the more twisted horror stories from the later comics. It would have just gotten further. For people who do not know the character, Season One told people something Swamp Thing was all over, but season two would be more about delving into the deeper, twisted, roaring and gross ideas. “

Swamp Thing debuts on October 6 on The CW.
