The bodies of a retired California couple who went missing in northern Mexico last month have been found at the bottom of a well there, officials say.
Ian Hirschson, 78, of Sion Diego, and Kathy Harvey, 73, of Athy, were staying at a second home near El Socarito in the western Mexican state of Baja California when their last date was heard from Aug. 6, CBS-TV affiliated KFMB reported. .
Harvey’s son, Robert Harvey, said that day, his mom talked him into telling her that the pair were planning to visit a gold mine or a beach.
Harvey, a former aerospace engineer and Princeton University grad Hirshon and a physical therapist, was due to return to California three days later.
They never made it home – and their dark blue Toyota Land Cruiser was abandoned earlier this week, about 3 hours north of El Socoritto, in a remote area of Asenada.

Human remains were soon found in a nearby well on Thursday – and officials have now positively confirmed that they belong to the couple.
The death of the pair is considered a tragedy, the TV station said.
Robert Harvey said his mom and Hirson love Mexico and are part of a vibrant ex-community there.
“She was really enjoying retirement,” he told CBS. “He loved to walk and travel. She had a huge bucket list of wishes to go. ”
Hirschson’s daughter, Ava Setzer, posted a disappointing message on Facebook last week after the couple’s bodies were found, urging anyone who has seen the pair to reach out to her.
“Any information on their whereabouts, please contact me immediately,” he wrote. “My dad Ian has a house in Al Sociરીtટો and has had a Baja travel season since buying the house in ‘8585.
“He stayed at home and the community is the first to report him missing. સામાન્ય He usually windsurfs to the places shown on the map below in San Quintin Bay.”
Mexican authorities confirmed the couple’s identity on Monday – two days later a man, a double South African and a Canadian citizen living in Mexico, was found dead on the Baja Peninsula. Hirschson was originally from South Africa.
The body of another dead man, Craig Harris, 65, was found on Cabo Pulmo beach, officials said. They were stabbed in the chest and were on a backpack full of rocks before being thrown into the sea and then washed ashore.
Harris, who was last seen on August 29, was running a vacation rental business in Cabo, reports said.
