Charlotte, NC – A Charlotte woman who had skull surgery was shocked to wake up with braids in her hair.
NBC Charlotte reports that India Marshall had bone growths on her skull that recently required surgery.
Marshall said that before surgery, he washed and untangled his curly hair and didn’t think about it anymore. When he woke up and removed the bandage, he found the beautiful braids, which were even separated so he could take care of his stitches.
It turns out that his surgeon, Dr. Jewel Greywoode, was responsible.
Greywoode, who is black, told NBC Charlotte that he is the father of two daughters and that he has “night curls” regularly. When he saw Marshall’s hair, he said he knew it would end up tangled and knotted during the surgery, so he braided it.
Marshall shared his story on social media, and Greywoode’s kindness quickly went viral.
Marshall told NBC Charlotte that what he did means everything.
“For me, it was an indication that someone was watching me, and what I mean by that is seeing myself as a black woman and the things that impact me on a daily basis, and that hair is one of them,” says Marshall. “Just for having that experience is priceless.”
