Bill Belichick hasn’t had many really terrible NFL Sundays in the last 20 years, but he had to qualify as one of the worst in the weekly 7 Weeks of the 2020 season. Belichick’s old backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was immersed in a game of multilateral revenge for the 49-nation president while in the same time slot, Tom Brady looked very attractive, testing the “2007 Tom Brady” suit against the Riders. Five-touchdown efforts that helped the Bucks reach the top of the NFC.
For someone as the best bet of the people, the result at Foxborough was shocking, with Geropolo and Co. beating Newton and Pets 6-33–6. Things got so bad that Belichick fielded Newton for Jarrett Stadium, what is at the mercy of his first-year quarterback bench.
For San Francisco, it was a sweet win. Jimmy G returned to his first team, which generously traded him to the 49ers, where he got a great deal of success and a big glee of guaranteed money. Two weeks after getting his own kindness bench, Garoppolo was largely impressive, passing 20-25-passes for 277 yards. He made a really bad interception in the 49ers second series and took shots on the field at the end of the half, seemingly meaningless picks – Jeff Wilson and Kyle Juiszke rushed a lot of passes. It wasn’t some MVP game, but Geropolo was a better quarterback. That’s important.

For some icy dishes out ka getting wa, it was Kyle Shanahan who left Belichick behind in a rare match between the teams. The return of Jodi and Belichick is not hard to think of to win the Super Bowl against the Falcons – Shanahan was then the OC – in Houston, the famous 28-3 game. Outcoaching Belichic feels good for anyone, especially so Shahan. It wasn’t a mano-o-mano, as the 49ers completely outfielded one of these Pats coaches.
Geropolo had a lot of people running in the open in space and despite missing some important skill guys (Rahim Mostert), 49 were in lucrative positions due to Shanhan’s plans and impressive display of the offensive line, which led the Patriots ’front to fly for seven of the majority. Game. Newton, meanwhile, wasn’t able to get his running game – crediting the 49ers defensive plan to keep an eye on him – and the Potters had no gameplan to expose people against Niners coverage.
I don’t really think Newton has played as badly as the numbers show, but a 9-of-15 for 98 yards and three picks isn’t the ideal state line against another contender visiting your home turf. One of Newton’s picks was an arm punt and the other was Julian Edelman called into the air where he was snatched by 49 people. Why not make excuses – he’s been bad for the last two weeks – but I think his stats could be more than Pats’ appearance and lack of skill-position about him than why he’s just forgetting how to play quarterback Is. At least it’s fair to ask if he’s dealing with a subsequent physical condition. Maybe it’s a combination of all those things.
Whatever the case, the Patriots have now lost in three straight games under Belichick for the first time since 2002. New England are 2-2 and third in the AFC East. The Pets are 5-1 to win the split (not a terrible bet if you believe in Belichick and see the same cracks that Bill is starting to see), the longest hurdle for New England in the long run.
That’s bad enough for Belichick, but imagine dealing with this when your former long-term quarterback grabs him at a new landing spot, releasing the Raiders defense and bringing his new team to the top of the NFC. Brady threw four touchdown passes against John Gruden’s crew and felt like a vintage Brady, growing more and more comfortable in his new skin.
Anyone who thought Brady would have fallen off a cliff this year was stupid. That’s Tom Brady! But it’s amazing how quickly he can adapt to a new team and a new offensive plan. The answer? He came out very quickly. After a slow start to the year against the Saints, Brady and Books have added a more Brady-friendly offense, mixing nicely what Brad likes to see and what Arians likes to say.
The result is a fairly explosive offense that will soon add Antonio Brown. Whether or not you like the personnel aspect of bringing Brown is largely irrelevant – Brady chooses Brown as a player and Antonio was the best receiver of football for almost five years. If he’s working on Antonio Brown at the top – or something close to him – the books will be more lethal in crime.
While managing the Patriots and Buchananers on Sunday, in the same time slot, there was a surprise. Is it possible that Belichik repented for letting the bread run? Certainly it is in the realm of possibility. Would these pets be better with Team Brad D?
I’m not so sure. I can see for sure that Bellich was disappointed that Brady had had tremendous success away from New England. The reality of the split between the two parties will always be a big dose of comparison in the 2020 season. Initially his advantage went to Belichic, but Brady clearly has legs. There’s plenty of time and a lot of season left – the Patils could do some sort of trade to shore up their pass catchers and the Buccaneers could run a better defense (see what happened to them on Thursday in Chicago).
But it was impossible to ignore the difference in offensive shocks between Tom Brady and his older team on Sunday.
