The key creators behind the Suikoden RPG series are working on a spiritual successor named Eiyuden Chronicle, described as “an ode to the classic JRPG genre of the PlayStation era.”
Developed by the newly formed Rabbit and Bear Studios, Eiyuden Chronicle it will feature “classic JRPG exploration” and turn-based battles with “2.5D high-resolution graphics” and pixel-based characters. The story of Eiyuden Chronicle focuses on Seign Kesling, described as a young and talented imperial officer, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village, who lives in the land of Allraan. The two become friends, despite being on different sides of a conflict between the peaceful League of Nations and the power-hungry Galdean Empire, which seeks to expand its reach through magical items called rune lenses.
The team behind Eiyuden Chronicle includes the creator of the Suikoden series, Yoshitaka Murayama (Suikoden, Suikoden 2), who serves as game director and scenario writer; Junko Kawano (Suikoden, Suikoden 4), main artist; Osamu KomutaSuikoden Tactics, Suikoden Tierkreis), working on the design and management of the system; and Junichi Murakami (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow), working in art direction and production. Composers Motoi Sakuraba (Tales series), Michiko Naruke (Wild Arms series) and Yasunori Mitsuda (chrono trigger, Xenogears) are also attached to the project.
Rabbit and Bear Studios is trying to crowdfund Eiyuden Chronicle via Kickstarter. The study campaign will run from July 27 to August 28. Eiyuden Chronicle It is being developed for the PC, with console versions unlocked through extended crowdfunding goals. The game is scheduled for release in the fall of 2022.
The Suikoden series started on the original PlayStation in 1995. Konami released four main sequels, with the final entry numbered, Suikoden 5, which arrived in 2006 for the PlayStation 2. A series of spin-offs and remakes were also released for Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and PSP.
