Cops in suburban Chicago who shot and killed a black couple in a car – one of them – have been arrested, according to reports.
Protests erupted during a traffic stop in Wakuagan late Tuesday night following the killing of 19-year-old Marcellus Steinet and the wounding of 20-week-old Tafara Williams.
Announcing the firing Friday night, Vukangan Police Chief Van Ves Les said the officer was found guilty of “multiple policy and procedural violations” in connection with the incident, according to an Associated Press report.

Ves Les did not spell out the violations or name the officer in his brief statement, which has been described as Hispanic in previous reports.

The police department said officers approached the vehicle on foot and fired the weapon “out of fear of his safety,” while Williams, who was driving, put the vehicle in the opposite direction.
Stinett was struck on the passenger seat. Williams was shot in the arm and abdomen.
Officers found no gun in the car, which police said was intended to escape from a previous traffic stop.
Before Ves Les released his statement, Lake County’s chief prosecutor, Michael Nerham, announced that the FBI would join Illinois State Police in investigating the shooting.
“I have confidence in the work being done by the Illinois State Police and welcome the assistance of the FBI,” Nerham said. “As I said before, once the investigation is complete, all the evidence will be reviewed and a final decision will be made taking into account any possible charges.”
