We already have some idea about Apple’s future plans for a foldie iPhone Flip, although Apple has not disclosed details or even confirmed that such a device is in the works. Nevertheless, with rumors and patents filling in some information, more imaginative Apple fans have taken to designing a foldable iPhone on behalf of Apple.
ConceptsiPhone has just given us one of the better ones iPhone 12 Flip videos on YouTube, showing what an Apple collapsible phone might be capable of if it ever appeared. The video highlights everything from the external display of the phone to a full-screen setting when the device is folded open.
The render in the ConcepsiPhone video shows an external display that would probably be used for quick notifications before blowing to the front, which looks like a longer iPhone. Once the 90-degree angle is filled, the front view still looks like the traditional iOS array, with activity and clock widgets at the top of the screen, similar to what you’ll see iOS 14.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the clip is the jaw-drop realism where two iPhone Flips – one that is unfolded and the other folded up – are arranged on a wood-paneled surface to show off their contrasting size. The closed iPhone 12 Flip then opens and falls out, spinning to open shiny aluminum edges with what looks like a USB Type-C charging port like the iconic Apple logo in the same place it always has been: near the top center of ‘ the back of the phone.
At the end of the video, a price tag of $ 1,999 appears. While that’s at the high end of what foldable phones are going to do these days, it’s the kind of price that is sure to bubble everyone’s bubble when they are introduced to a foldable iPhone.
The concept video is very similar to anything that could have come from Cupertino, even though some rumors of iPhone Flip suggesting that Apple will take a slightly different approach. A patent filing earlier this year suggests Apple is looking at a curved hinge design, while another rumor points to it Apple with two separate display panels on a hinge. What we see in the concept video looks a lot more like the Flip of Galaxy Z – certainly a fine phone, but not one that Apple is likely to copy when it comes out with its own foldable.
And that’s a big axis. Even with the concept video calling this the iPhone 12 Flip, we are not likely to see such a device next to the other iPhone 12 models this fall. Apple is rumored to be producing four models with conventional looks, allowing the folding phones to be released for future releases … as per the imagination of concept designers.
