Press release from College of the Redwoods:
College of the Redwoods has been notified of a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a student who lives in one of our residences. Our security protocols were immediately implemented and the student, along with someone else who may have been in contact with the infected student, were placed in isolation. Meals and other necessities will be provided and the students will receive regular health checks while they are in isolation for 14 days.
The positive case was discovered through pro-active testing of residential students upon their arrival on campus. Humboldt County Public Health, working with college administration and staff, determined the risk of exposure to other individuals on campus was low, meaning that the risk to other students, staff and faculty was not greater than the risk of contracting of the virus in the general public. The student did not share a room with other students for isolation and will not be in classes with other students or faculties. Follow-up testing of students in the residential halls is scheduled for next Wednesday, August 26th.
Additional on-campus cleaning and sanitation has been done, notifications have been made to those who have been in contact with the individual and staff are working closely with Humboldt County Public Health to monitor the situation.
We urge all members of our college to minimize the spread of disease by taking the following actions to protect yourself and others:
- Wear face masks
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water
- Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze
