Strange Utah Monolith taken by the group, who said, ‘Leave no trace’

New details suggest the bizarre steel monolith that disappeared shortly after its discovery in Utah was taken over by a group of self-described environmentalists.

A 12-foot-tall object seen near Salt Lake City was smashed and removed by four people on Friday, according to Colorado photographer Ross Bernards.

The 34-year-old, who posted photos and details on Facebook, was reminded that the group threw away what was left in a container, saying, “Leave no trace” and, “That’s why you don’t leave trash in the desert.”

Although the monolith was placed on public land in the Red Rock country without permission, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office told the Associated Press on Wednesday that it was not considering an investigation.

However, its disappearance is another matter. “This theft – that’s what we’re looking for,” San Juan County Sheriff Jason Torgers explained in an interview with KSL.com on Tuesday. “But we have no one to say that they are missing out on monotony.”

On Tuesday, YouTuber and Slackliner Sylvan Christensen and base jumper Andy Lewis took credit for overcoming the monotony, posting a short video clip in which men hold a part of it.

In a statement, Christensen said that “because of the damage caused by the Internet sensation” they are motivated to take monolith.

“We removed the Utah monolith because it is a clear example of how we share and certify our public lands, natural wildlife, native plants, freshwater resources and the human influences on them,” he said. “The secret was infatuation and we want to use this time to unite the people behind the real issues here – we’re losing our public land – things like that won’t help.”

The Bureau of Land Management reportedly found an increase in cars and trash parked at the plant since the monopoly was found on Nov. 18.

The agency conducted aerial surveillance of the Byron sheep when the object was found. Officials have since determined that the structure was placed on the ground sometime between August 2015 and October 2016.

Believe it or not! Utah is offering a 10,000 reward for information on monoliths.

Utah is not the only place where someone has popped up. A similar structure found in northern Romania last week and a German phallus-shaped sculpture have both recently disappeared without explanation.
