Storms knock down trees and power lines in Detroit Metro


DETROIT – Powerful storms hit Michigan on Sunday, bringing in city trees, power lines, and even removing the roof of a fire station at Willow Run Airport.

No injuries were reported at Willow Run Airport.

The damage is all over Metro Detroit, in Washtenaw, Oakland and Macomb counties, including Detroit.

Home surveillance video captured a lightning strike in Waterford that nearly struck a house.

People were caught outside at a farmers market in Belleville during the height of the storm. People ran to take refuge and took refuge instead.

The storm caused a power surge on the west side of Detroit that set fire to a nearby business.

Residents at Van Buren said it felt like a tornado.

DTE Energy said the company has more than 300 busy workers as more than 100,000 customers have lost power.
