We’re been in a global pandemic for many months (have you heard?) With no end in sight, and though it need not be said, por favor: stop throwing personal parties. And do not throw a party on your rented Airbnb – if you do, you may be banned from booking in the future.

Airbnb has long banned parties for COVID-19 for the most part, placing a ban on “unauthorized” meetings. Most hosts do not allow events in their house rules. But since the pandemic began, Airbnb has removed the option for ads that explicitly allow parties and events, and the platform has now places a worldwide ban on parties on all listed properties.

What this means in practice: You will not be able to book a property for more than 16 people.

The Airbnb announcement also states that “parties are now banned from all future bookings.” It does not explicitly prohibit you from hanging a non-reserved guest or two in your hair, but notes that Airbnb does not sanction smaller gatherings and will enforce rules against “groups of any size.”

If you host a party and you are reported (by a neighbor, for example), you will probably be banned from using Airbnb in the future. The company has, too legal action taken against a guest who threw a party in Sacramento earlier this month, and it does not seem hesitant to do so against future offenders. Hosts that allow large parties free can also have consequences.

In principle, do not be responsible. You should not throw or attend large meetings everywhere at the moment, and you absolutely should not have to club or party in a rental property. If you use Airbnb, book a property that allows the number of guests you expect to attend, and follow the host’s rules.
