Stockton’s commitment to the Gamecocks is certainly no big surprise, as he has multiple ties to the football program. Mike Bobo is South Carolina’s first year offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Mike Bobo’s father, George Bobo, is Stockton’s personal quarterback coach. The high coach of Stockton is Jaybo Shaw, the older brother of former Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw, who is now back in Columbia as the Gamecocks Director of Player Development.

Late July, when she announced it would be between South Carolina and Georgia, Stockton said Connor Shaw is his role model.

“I saw (Connor) play almost every high school and college game,” Stockton said. “I dreamed of wearing 14 just like he and my dad. At the age of 6 or 7, Coach (George) Bobo showed me how to throw a football. He then spoke to my dad to make me into a QB instead of an LB. Now that I’ve built a relationship with Coach Mike, I see the same qualities in him that I hold about his father. They are competitive, faithful and Christ like. You can not ask for more than that. “

Stockton is now on a path that leads him to wear the same uniform that Shaw did, close to a decade later.
