Stock futures have risen since Trump’s motorcade appearance

Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 150 points, while both the S&P 500 futures and the Nasdaq 100 futures rose about 0.5 percent.

President Trump tweeted a video early Sunday saying he was “getting good reports from doctors.” He then waved supporters outside the hospital on a short outing in a Secret Service motorcade.

In response to a tweet asking why Trump would leave the hospital despite being ill with COVID-19, Marketplace’s Kai Raisdale tweeted: “Because futures start trading at 6pm East Coast time.”

The market has been increasingly volatile in recent months amid election talks, discussion around the upcoming COVID-19 stimulus package on Capitol Hill, and an epidemic that shows no signs of abating.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened on Friday, down 1.4 percent after Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis, with a loss of about 400 points. The S&P 500 index is down 1.6 percent and the Nasdaq composite is down 2 percent.
