The Late Show with Stephen Colbert en The Late Late Show with James Corden Last night came back to the studio and both hosts showed how they and their teams handle the new health and safety protocols.
It comes as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon prepares to welcome back his first musical guest in the studio – the first guest in the studio late at night since the COVID-19 production stop.
Colbert filmed Monday night’s show at the Ed Sullivan Theater, except he was in the office building instead of on his usual stage.
“Some things have changed,” he said, when he explained how his staff had built a replica of his office in another office before filming the show. ‘It’s the first time I’ve not done my show in my house in five months. I’m so happy to be here to see members of my crew, ”he said.

‘I may be back in the Ed Sullivan Theater building, but as you can tell I’m not on stage, I’m upstairs in the offices. The Beatles, admittedly, did not enter here, but the girls were still going crazy when Ringo came here to make copies. My staff did a great job of making this a studio, ‘he added, handing over his Captain America shield, Charleston card, Lord of the Rings books and a photo of his dog.
Meanwhile, Corden enjoyed the new protests of health and safety with a video showing the British host running into some problems, or more specifically, plastic safety guards, as he reunited with bandleader Reggie Watts. “Even better than the garage,” he joked.
Finally, Fallon prepares to host a musical performance by Phish frontman Trey Anastasio on last night’s show. Anastasio will perform a song called “I Never Needed You Like This Before” with The Roots after writing and recording a new album while quarantining during the pandemic.
“First live in studio guest for us,” Fallon tweeted. ‘Everything done safely and carefully. We are so psyched. Tonight. “
It comes after that The Tonight Show came back to 30 Rock a few weeks ago. It just goes away Late Night with Seth Meyers, which is set to return to the studio in the fall, and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, whose host is on a pre-planned summer break, from the broadcast network hosting late nights.
