State College, PA – Health Department Reports 1 New COVID-19 Death, 2 New Cases in Center County –


The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported a new death of COVID-19 and two new cases of the virus in Center County on Saturday.

The Center County Coroner’s Office could not immediately be contacted to confirm the death. According to DOH, the county has had seven deaths attributed to the virus. COVID-19’s last death confirmed by coroner Scott Sayers, the sixth in the county, occurred on May 27.

Deaths among residents of county nursing homes were unchanged at six, according to the health department.

The two new cases brought the county grand total to 200 since the first was reported on March 20: 186 confirmed and 14 probable. A total of 4,028 people in Center County tested negative for the virus, an increase of 84 from Friday.

In the past two weeks, the county has added 33 new cases.

Statewide, 621 new positives were reported Saturday, bringing the Pennsylvania total to 84,991. A total of 646,780 patients have tested negative for the virus.

An estimated 78 percent of all COVID-19 patients in Pennsylvania, or about 66,293, have recovered, according to the health department. Statewide, 651 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized and 118 require the use of a ventilator.

Pennsylvania has had a total of 6,603 deaths attributed to the virus, including 24 reported on Saturday.

16865 (Pennsylvania Furnace), 16828 (Central Hall), 16829 (Clarence), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16875 (Spring Mills), 16852 (Madisonburg), 16872 (Rebersburg), 16845 (Karthaus) each has 1-4 confirmed cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases.

Among the bordering counties of Center County, Huntingdon now has 245 cases in total, Union has 90, Clinton has 75, Clearfield has 72, Blair has 71 (+2), and Mifflin has 62.
