There’s a beautiful alignment to see in the morning sky this week, as the invisible crescent moon moves towards the bright lighthouse of Venus and the barely shining, inner planet Mercury.
Adding to this scene is Spika, the bright star of the Virgo, Virgo constellation. The chart shows an east-south-east look from London at 6am on 12 November. Mercury, Venus and Spica will appear throughout the week, with the Moon approaching and approaching.
On November 12, only 12.5% of the Moon’s surface will be illuminated, making it a beautiful crescent to observe in its own way. Mercury is always a challenge though Venus will definitely be bright. Being the innermost planet of the solar system, it never stays away from the sun, so find a place to see that has a clear horizon.
From the Southern Hemisphere, Mercury is very difficult to see at this time, but the Moon and Venus will appear, embracing the eastern horizon before sunrise.
