Starbucks ‘Karen’ wants half the donations for a barista who didn’t serve her

The California “Karen” who chided an online Starbucks barista for refusing to serve her without a face mask says she deserves half of the more than $ 100,000 in donations raised for the employee.

Amber Lynn Gilles complained about the worker in a Facebook post last month, posting a photo of the woman at one of the locations of the San Diego coffee giant who denied her service for not following the county’s coronavirus guidelines.

“You know Lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me because I’m not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for the police and file a medical exemption, ”he wrote in the now-deleted post.

Generous readers opened their wallets to support the worker, Lenin Gutiérrez, raising more than $ 105,400 in “tips” for him through GoFundMe.

Gilles told a local Fox affiliate that she is considering suing to collect half of those funds because she claims to have underlying health problems that make her medically exempt from the mask mandates.

“It was discrimination and everyone agrees with that and allows and rewards that behavior,” said Gilles.

“I have difficulty breathing, dizziness and my heartbeat bothers me,” he told the station. “And I also have asthma, and I have mask acne. So various things are happening and not only that, it doesn’t even work. “

Gilles brought two documents to the store to prove his exemption. One document was a 2015 pelvic examination, reporting a “probable exophytic fibroid arising from the anterior wall of the uterus measuring 2.9 cm in size” and “simple left ovarian cyst of 2.5 cm.”

A second was a handwritten note on letterhead from a local chiropractor, saying: “Amber has underlying respiratory conditions that prevent her from wearing a mask or any type of facial covering. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Gilles asked that the chiropractor not be named, and the practitioner declined to speak about Gilles when the media contacted him.

She advocated using a note from a chiropractor for a breathing-related condition because: “They are dedicated to providing personalized, non-invasive treatment and care. They are true doctors. “

Gilles said she was not at all sorry for her post and that she had started her own GoFundMe to raise money for legal fees should she decide to sue.

“I feel like I need an apology,” he added. “I have been discriminated against, I am the one who is sick.”
