Bioware’s MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic has just been released on Steam.
The game originally came out in 2011, at a time when EA was trying to take off its Origin platform and hated releasing games on Steam. It’s only recently that EA has reintroduced its games to the platform, and today it’s finally the turn of The Old Republic.
When it was first released, The Old Republic was hugely ambitious. A fully voiced MMO that combined the decision-based storytelling of a single-player Bioware game with the social and large-scale element of a more traditional MMO, many people enjoyed it more for its story than for any of its live game elements.
While the main game is free, there is also an optional subscription available through Steam that includes a level cap increase, access to the Onslaught, Knights of Eternal Throne and Knights of the Fallen Empire expansions, and unlimited access to various games. . modes. If $ 15 / £ 9 a month sounds a little too much, there’s still an absurd amount of content in the free game to keep going as well.
The Steam launch also has three cosmetic packs available for purchase, the Jedi and Sith costume packs at a whopping $ 25 / £ 20 each (or even a whopping $ 60 / £ 48 for the deluxe edition of Anyone), and the Galactic Leisure Pack that includes a Rancor holographic toy, a Vulptilla puppy pet, and a Dejaik emoticon (the cool holo-chess from A New Hope).
Please note that the game still requires the external SWTOR client to be installed and running in order to play. This only allows you to manage your subscription and installation through Steam if you prefer.
