It seems that the Flyers hope that Niskanan will change his mind, but in the end he did not, recently informing his Flyers teammates that he is playing.
Flyers, I believe, spoke with Niskanen again to make sure he was accurate in his decision. Looks like it is. Nisken has also informed his colleagues.

According to his agent, Nisken did not want to play again during the COVID-19 epidemic, which took him away from his family during the summer.
“He told me he didn’t want to go through that again,” Neil Shea told Hockey News. “He mentioned me to Kovid. I don’t think he wanted to get ready for the second season by November 15th and then go into solitude and stay away from his two children and wife. I think he always fulfills his contract and then closes, but I think because of the experience of Kovid and his bubbles, he decided now is the time. He basically said, ‘With Kovid, I don’t want to do that. Now I don’t want to prepare. ”
Shikhi added, “He’s going to live in northern Minnesota and he’s going hunting and fishing and as a kid he had all the choices that he hasn’t had a chance to do since he started playing pro hockey.”
Nisskanan’s decision has cleared about 1 million 6 million cap spaces for flyers before the agency opens a fee agency on Friday.
After struggling in 2018-19, Nisken bounced the flyers with big time last season, arguably his best campaign since 2015-16 (according to GAR – targets above replacement). Nisky performed even better than Radco Gudas, who was knocked out by former Capitals head coach Todd Redden.
During his 13 seasons in the NHL, Nisken scored 72 goals and scored 356 points in 949 games. Nisken once voted for the Norris Trophy once in the 2013-14 season, finishing 11th after scoring 10 goals in his final season with the Penguins and scoring 46 points.
In 2018, Nisken helped history draw the Washington Capitals into its first and only Stanley Cup in team history. Niski played on the first pair with Dmitry Orlov.
Capitals, the last Stanley Cup champion, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the former team from Niskenan, lost in the second round of 2016 and 2017, but beat them the following year. This is the first time Alex has advanced to the second round of the Capitals playoffs during the Ovechkin era.
“The previous two years our teams were a bit more talented, they could have big names, but for whatever reason, this group got the best way to play when we needed it the most,” Nisken said. “It simply came to our notice then. We played hard for each other. We checked back hard. We blocked more shots when we had to. The guys scored big goals on time. It was a special group. ”
Niskannan had nine points in 24 games during this run. He chose to host his day with the Stanley Cup in his hometown of Virginia, Minnesota.
A year later, Niski was dealt with division rival Philly.
“It’s hard,” the emotional Nisken told of his trade. “You get very close to your teammates and your teammates, especially when you have success and do something special to win the Stanley Cup together in the recent past. Too hard to say goodbye. But we are together forever. ”
Nisken played his first game in DC on 8 February.
Capitals played a video paying tribute to Niski.
There appeared to be a standing ovation to make the former D of the team emotional.
According to CapeFriendly, Nisken made 2.43.2 million during his 13 years in the NHL.
