Squads have immersive HUD mode, can hide cosmetics

Do you want your X-Wing VR experience to be as immersive as possible? We have good news for you: You can disable the Star Wars: Squadrons HUD (display screen) elements.

Developer EA Motive both confirmed talking to IGN. The VR compatible flight combat game will feature a ‘Hardcore Mode’ which will remove some of the elements from the HUD and the user interface (UI).

“When you start the story,” explained creative director Ian S. Frazier, “we asked if you want the standard experience, which we hope will be taken by most players, or a hardcore mode, which removes a lot of UI that helps you locating yourself in space and makes you completely rely on cockpit readings. So for people who are newer to the genre, I hope they play standard, and for people who have tons of flight experience, it is possible who want to try that. “

We imagine that many VR players will want that more immersive experience as well, although it might be necessary to get used to the game with those elements enabled first.

However, in another victory for authenticity, Squads will also allow you to disable visible customizations for both your trade and those of other players. In other words, if someone wants to decorate their X-Wing with a decal, they will be able to choose whether they can see that, or just normal X-Wing skin.

“Some players are not going to want to see any of that,” Frazier explained. “No matter how plausible it is, they just want to keep it exactly as we’ve seen it in the movies, no more and no less, and we totally understand it. And then we have an option in the game to hide the cosmetics from everyone else. So if you turn it on all of a sudden, if you want to put a race strip or whatever on your own TIE Fighter, you’ll see it, but everyone else will just look like a normal TIE Fighter. you.”

Again, this looks like a move that will speak to many players who want the authentic Star Wars experience in virtual reality. Squadrons will be released on October 2 with optional support for PC VR headsets on PC and PSVR on PS4. You can find everything we know about the game here.
