Spotify is currently experiencing a power outage that has been playing songs. The problems first started around 8AM ET and currently prevent a large number of Spotify users from playing songs properly. Songs will only play for a few seconds before pausing and the Spotify client will display the error “can not play current song.” Spotify says it is “aware of some issues at the moment and check them out.”
If you have synced songs to your Android or iOS device, these offline playlists and albums will still work fine. Any recently played songs should also be replayed as they could be remembered in the Spotify mobile and desktop clients.
We are currently aware of some issues and check them out! We will keep you posted.

It’s unusual for Spotify to suffer from interruptions. The music streaming service has experienced recent issues during a broader Facebook iOS SDK issue in July, which meant the app crashed at startup. We’ve reached out to Spotify for further comment on today’s performance, and we’ll update you later.
