The special prosecutor tasked with reviewing the State Attorney’s handling of the Jussie Smollett investigation in Chicago ruled that the bureau was abusing its discretion in the case against the actor, but did nothing criminal.
In a statement on the conclusions of his investigation, Special Prosecutor Dan Webb sharply criticized the handling of the Smollett case by Cook County Attorney Kim County and her assistant prosecutors, saying her handling was marked by outrage and misleading statements.

Webb’s findings announced Monday came after prosecutors were restored against Smollett by the same special prosecutor in February. Webb said at the time that lowering the charges against Smollett was not fair, including because the evidence against Smollett seems plausible and because he was not required to admit that the attack was a hoax.
Uploaded documents by Webb in February accused the Black, openly gay actor of making a false police report by claiming that two men attacked him early on January 29, 2019, in downtown Chicago, writing slurps and a rope around pulled the neck.

One of the focal points of Webb’s inquiry was about whether Foxx acted wrongly by talking to a Smollett relative and a one-time help from former First Lady Michelle Obama before the accusations fell, or by weighing on the case. after she refused herself.
