Southern California’s ICU capacity has dropped by 0% as 379 new deaths are reported, breaking the state’s daily record.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (KABC) – ICU capacity in the 11-county Southern California region has fallen to 0%, amid a dramatic surge in coronavirus cases, officials said Thursday.

This announcement does not mean that there are no intensive care unit beds available.

Percentages in the state are adjusted downwards if the expected proportion of COVID-19 patients occupying ICU space in the counts is higher.

With the announcement of the death of capacity 379 California in the state came news of declining ICU capacity, recording the highest number of casualties in a single day since the epidemic began and breaking the previous day’s record.

Another 52,281 new cases of the virus were reported in the state, just 1,400 fewer than in California’s previous days.

If California were a country, here’s how it would rank based on Johannes Hopkins’ Covid-19, based on the December 16 daily case count:

1) USA 247,403
2) Brazil 70,574
3) California 53,711
4) UK 25,161
5) India 24,010
6) France 17,720
7) Italy 17,568
