Sources say Candace Parker will play for hometown Chicago Sky after 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks

Two-time WNB MVP Candace Parker has committed to playing for the Chicago Sky after 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks, sources told ESPN.

Parker, who was drafted at No. 1 in 2008, is an unrestricted free agent. Free-agent players can start signing up with their new teams on Monday.

While Sparks tried to retain the ruling defensive player of the year, which helped him win the WNB title in 2016, he had the opportunity to return to his hometown Chicago for the latter part of his career and play against friends and family. Very appealing to pass.

Parker, 34, played in all 22 games for the Sparks in the 2020 season and finished third in the MVP poll.

The 6-foot-4 forward is the only player in league history to have won the MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season (2008).

She was also a WNBA MVP in 2013 and a Finals MVP in 2016. For his career, Parker has averaged 16.9 points and 8.6 rebounds in the game.

Park won two national championships at the NCAA in 2007 and ’08 in Tennessee.
