Sony is considering owning SNK’s parent company

King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown series could become exclusive to PlayStation consoles if this happens

According to Bloomberg, Sony is considering an offer for Leyou Technologies, the parent company of SNK Corporation. In August 2015, Leyou Millenium, now known as Leyou Technologies, purchased SNK Playmore, then renamed to SNK Corporation.

Anonymous sources allegedly from Sony Corporation told Bloomberg that they are working with a financial advisor on a potential offer for Lenyou Technologies. The sources are said to be anonymous since the matter is supposed to be private. If an offer is accepted, this would make Sony the new parent company of SNK Corporation.

SNK is known in the fighting game community for producing game series like King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown. Since King of Fighters 15 is currently in development, there is a chance that this will inevitably mean that King of Fighters 15 will become a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

The Samurai Shodown series also recently returned in June 2019. If the series continues, future Samurai Shodown titles could also become exclusive to PlayStation.

It’s also worth mentioning that Terry Bogard is currently a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While this deal would not directly affect Terry’s inclusion in this game, it could greatly reduce his chances of returning in future installments.

Although Microsoft was willing to allow Nintendo to use Banjo-Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the chances of Sony lending Nintendo one of its intellectual properties seems less likely.

In addition to Sony, iDreamSky and CVC Capital Partners appear to be in talks for a joint bid to acquire Leyou Technologies. Leyou’s controlling shareholder, Charles Yuk, is said to be targeting a buyer as early as this month.
