Sony has apparently approached all major third-party developers with exclusivity contracts

Sony made a lot of waves earlier this week after confirming that the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers would star Spider-Man as an exclusive playable character on the PlayStation 5, while skipping entirely on Xbox and PC. Highlighting this in their “PlayStation Advantage” video on their official YouTube channel, the company received a rather mixed response from viewers. However, a new report claims that people against these exclusive deals may need to worry even more about moving forward.

Imran Khan of Kinda Funny has revealed on ResetEra that Sony has approached all major third party companies, offering them more than Microsoft for similar exclusive offers. Khan claims that:

There is no big third party that Sony failed to ask what kind of deals they could work out. Some had content, some had games, some had content and games. It’s not like Microsoft was not ready to offer, they just did not want to pay the asking price, because Sony approached in the first place.

That “PlayStation Advantage” markup and “Console Exclusive” markup will both get a lot of use in the coming years.

It is advisable to take this rumor with a grain of salt, given that there has been no official confirmation about this from Sony itself. However, given the aggressive marketing of the company’s PlayStation Advantage ‘ Marvel’s Avengers, something like this would not only be out of the ordinary. Furthermore, it is still unclear which companies have actually agreed to sign exclusivity agreements with Sony as they approach.

That said, this supports the flames further from the seemingly endless “console wars” debate, in which Sony seems to be giving potential buyers key reasons to buy their next-generation console instead of Microsoft, even if it means you get a lot of backlog from some parts of the gaming community.
