Sony apologizes for PS5 preorder mess, promises more stock on ‘next few days’

Sony has apologized for being a bit of a mess with the PS5 ancestors. “Let’s be honest: PS5 preorders can be pretty simple,” Sony says from the official PlayStation Twitter account. “We really apologize for that.” The bias for the new PS5 console began on Wednesday, a day after Sony said retailers would take orders. Walmart and others started randomly launching their PS5 preorder slots so it led to a wanderlust. Some of the biases also disappeared after about a minute.

Sony now says it will release more PS5 consoles for preorder in the “next few days”, promising retailers to share more details. It’s not clear if these experimenters will be delivered on launch day, and Sony is also promising that “more PS5 will be available by the end of the year.”

Amazon also started warning customers yesterday that some of its PS5 preorder may come after the launch day, probably because the retailer doesn’t know how many units it will receive.

The chaotic pre-order situation started just a week after Sony started the invite-registration for PS5 preorders. Eric Lampel, the PlayStation’s head of global marketing, also promised earlier: It won’t happen with a minute’s notice. Sony tweeted on Wednesday that an early start was being made on Thursday, and two hours later Walmart kicked its PS5 ancestors.

We’ll get the PS5 preorder details as soon as we get it from retailers, but if you’re interested in ordering Sony’s next-gen console, we’ve got PS5 links to all US retailers here.
