Sony is detailing its PS5 backwards compatibility support for playing older PS4 games today. Sony says the next-generation PS5 will support more than 4,000 PS4 games on the new PS5 console, “the majority of the majority.” While most PS4 games will be played, Sony warns that “some PS4 games show errors or unpredictable behavior when played on a PS5 console.” Some functions in PS4 games may not even be available on PS5.
It’s not clear which games will be affected by bugs or performance issues, but Sony 10 makes a list of existing PS4 games that won’t run on the PS5:
- DWVR
- Change the Afro Samurai 2 of Kuma Volume One
- TT Isle Man F Man – Ride the F Age 2
- Just deal with it!
- Shadow Complex Remaster
- Robinson: Journey
- We sing
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
- Shedwen
- J’s dinner
There are also some common PS5 backward compatibility limitations for PS4 games. Share menus cannot be displayed in PS4 games running on PS5, and screenshots will need to be generated using the Create button on the Dual Sense controller. The Tours feature from the PS4 is also not compatible with the PS5, nor are in-game live or second-screen apps and game companion apps.
Sony says “Choose PS4 Games” will also work with the PS5’s Game Boost feature, which will run older PS4 games at higher frame rates. Sony has not provided a list of games that will support this feature yet.
