Apple is currently planning a new privacy feature for iOS 14 and IP. DOS 14, and it requires companies to request permission before tracking users on other apps and websites. While Apple Play has not given details of when this feature will be introduced, but it looks like initial groundwork is starting.
The privacy feature in question is twofold. First, users will be able to access the privacy controls in the Settings app under the “Privacy” menu. Here, users will be able to see which apps need permission to track them and can cancel or allow when needed.
Users will also see a pop-up message when they open an app for the first time since bringing this feature. Users will see notifications for new apps as well as those already on their devices. This pop-up is where companies like Facebook can explain to users why they should enable tracking.
Facebook is criticizing the sound of this new feature, saying it will affect small businesses and damage their ability to reach new customers. Apple Play has dismissed the criticism, saying the feature will not require Facebook to change its approach to tracking users, just to get permission.
Reported by First MCummers, Some users are now seeing the tracking prompt on their iPhone, but only for certain apps. For example, a user received a pop-up while opening an NBA application, saying that the application “requests permission to track your activity on other companies’ applications and websites.”
Apple originally hoped to launch this new privacy feature in September as part of iOS 14, but it ended up delaying the rollout to give developers more time to prepare. However, the company has repeatedly doubled down on this feature and has promised to launch it in early 2021.
Apple Pal released the first developer of iOS 14.4 last week and the public beta all after the stable release of iOS 14.3. Based on the precedent, we expect iOS 14.4 to be released all in early January.
However, some iOS users are reporting that they have seen this popup on iOS 14.3 and iOS 14.2. This could mean that it is a server-side change that the implementing moment is in the process of implementation, or that some developers have begun implementing the feature before the official “release”.
