Smoke adds air as Portland police clear lightning in the area

A riot erupted early Saturday outside a Portland police area as protesters continued to clash with law enforcement in Oregon’s largest city

PORTLAND, Ore. Smoke filled the air outside a police station in Portland, Oregon, as authorities worked to remove a crowd accused of damaging cartridges, throwing projectiles and pointing at laser officers.

Police said early Saturday outside the area in the north. Smoke was deployed and officers forced Protestants physically away from the area, reports said.

Windows were broken on patrol cars, police said, and items such as glass bottles were smashed and lasers were aimed at officers. Videos posted online showed several people being arrested after the rape statement, but it was not immediately clear how many arrests may have been made.

On Friday, protesters clashed with federal agents outside a U.S. immigration and customs enforcement building. People in a group of about 100 late Thursday and early in the morning spoke to the building with graffiti, threw rocks and bottles at agents and shone laser lights on them, Portland police said.

The agents removed smoke or tear gas and used ammunition for public control to disperse the public. Three people were arrested.

Also Friday, a number of federal buildings throughout the city were closed as the FBI investigated a car bomb threat.

Violent demonstrations have taken place over two months in the largest city in Oregon after the death of George Floyd as a Minneapolis police officer.
