SLO County set another daily COVID-19 case count record


San Luis Obispo County is reporting the death of another person who tested positive for COVID-19.

Health officials say the patient was in his 80s and had underlying health conditions.

San Luis Obispo County also added 343 new cases of COVID-19 in three days, with a total of 8,803 confirmed cases in the county as of Dec. 21.

On Saturday, 229 new cases were reported in the county, the most single-day cases since the epidemic began. Another 60 cases were reported on Sunday and 54 cases were reported on Monday.

The county’s previous record was set for Dec. 10, when 196 cases were reported.

Thirty-one people, including nine patients in the ICU, have been hospitalized. Another 1,782 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,909 have recovered.

There have been 60 deaths in San Louis Obispo County thanks to Covid-19.

The location of an additional 28 cases is under investigation, and another 11 have been listed as “others” in communities with less than five cases. The public health department is not identifying those places.

Community COVID-19 test sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Peso Robles, Morrow Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
