SLO Co. reports death of sixth resident with COVID-19

San Luis Obispo County says that a sixth county resident who tested positive for COVID-19 died.

Health officials say the person was 90 years old and lived in a long-term care facility for the elderly. They say the patient was infected through person-to-person spread in the facility.

“This disease is passed from person to person in SLO County, which means each of us can contribute to breaking that chain of transmission,” said Dr. Penny Borenstein, County Health Officer. “I ask you to do your part: avoid social and multi-family gatherings, keep a six-foot distance when you leave the house, and, if possible, wear a face cover in public.”

The Department of Public Health says that older adults, people with health problems, and people living in crowded settings are at increased risk for COVID-19; However, younger adults and those without chronic health conditions have also faced serious illness and hospitalization.

As of Tuesday, San Luis Obispo County reported a total of 1,078 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Fourteen people are hospitalized, including six patients who are in the ICU. Another 359 people are recovering at home and 699 people have recovered.
