Keep an eye on the southwest sky after sunset for the next two weeks.
Jupiter (bright red) and Saturn (small white) are bright in the south-west sky near the horizon.
Both planets are approaching and will appear closer than they have been in the last 800 years during the winter solstice on December 21st.
A great engagement event near the winter solstice is sometimes called the Christmas Star. These rare planets have not been formed in about 800 years.
Northern Lights potential?
A solar storm is sending an explosion of energy called “coronal mass ejection” to Earth.
The Northern Lights are quite possible over the next two nights as the explosion makes contact with the Earth’s magnetosphere. The forecast for the “Ur Roll Oval” brings more opportunities for light near the northern U.S. after midnight on Thursday morning and Wednesday night.
There are a few clouds in some parts of Minnesota on Wednesday night, but beware if you have clear skies.
